Patient, reliable and happy to help with everyday life

Hi, I’m Abubaker, currently studying in Paris. I’m someone who has always been quite comfortable around older people and I genuinely enjoy taking the time to talk, listen and help with everyday things. I grew up living in the same apartment building for around 15 years, so I naturally became close to many of my older neighbours. I would help them with grocery shopping, accompany them when they needed to go somewhere, help them understand or organise documents, and simply spend time talking with them when they wanted some company. I have also always been involved in looking after and helping my grandparents. I think one of the most important things when helping an older person is not making them feel like they are being “looked after” all the time. Sometimes they just need someone patient who will listen, have a conversation, help with something they find difficult, or make an ordinary day a little easier. I’m patient, responsible and comfortable helping with everyday tasks. I’m also happy to learn the particular routine and preferences of the person I would be helping, because I know that everyone has their own way of doing things. I may not have worked professionally as a caregiver before, but caring for people around me has always been something very natural to me.
